artsrichmond Young Writers Festival 2014/15

artsrichmond Young Writers Festival 2014/15Litrasaurus spent an amazing afternoon on Sunday listening to children’s writing.

This was the Celebration and Prize Giving for all the Young Writers nominated for awards by the artsrichmond judges this year.

The standard of writing was incredible with a whole range of topics across all age groups.

It took place at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, and the wonderful thing was that each of the twenty pieces was performed by three actors who didn’t just read the piece, they interpreted and performed each one individually.

The Mayor of Richmond was in attendance to present the prizes, which had been kindly donated by the Barnes Literary Society. This competition is a great initiative to encourage young people to express themselves and nurture talent. Indeed, two of the winners were picked to be this year’s Laureate and Junior Laureate.

It is only sad that just twenty of the submissions were showcased in this way – the judges commented how many good entries there had been, in fact as there always are, every year.
